You're right -- their position was that, if we make an exception for you, then we'd have to do it for everybody. (Hello, not everybody is going to ask for an exception!)
My opinion now is that the CSA providers could save themselves a lot of grief by just saying NO SUBSTITUTIONS before they...
Just wanted to weigh in from a CSA customer's point of view: maybe it was just our bad luck, but the CSA we signed up for was extremely rigid in not allowing substitutions (within reason) for items provided that were not wanted or caused allergies for the purchaser. They were really unpleasant...
My Dad had a sourdough starter he kept going for years, and Sundays when he fixed his sourdough biscuits, served with butter and homemade jam, were a special treat.
Ha, I do remember growing up how Mom always had to use the broom to shoo away the heat-loving hens sprawled on the flagstone path to the porch. Chickens are pretty smart!
After reading about this some time ago, I've wanted to try it to see if I could grow peaches, kiwis, and other warm-weather fruit out of my zone but never got around to seriously thinking what I'd have to do to make it work for me. First, build a wall...

For those of you with full-sized poultry (since bantams would be too light), have you ever tried a treadle feeder? The contraption protects that expensive feed from rats, sparrows, and the weather:

The oval with four compartments for poaching eggs would be just right for us, too.
If you use an egg...
My husband's carpenter friend just finished one of these for his wife, and I get one next!

Such a clever idea to use those inches between the wall and the fridge where I usually keep a broom and mop.
Ah, the great granny square! I have a huge bag of partial skeins and other leftover bits of yarn and a book called 101 Granny Squares, so even that which is usually discarded can eventually be made into another afghan when I have enough to put them together. I enjoy being able to donate these to...
Hi, Tim, I'm new, too, and this has been a great site for friendliness and suggestions. Welcome! And I can't wait to hear what kind of needlework since I'm a crocheter. :)
Yes, I have seen pictures of crocheters on the floor with their Q hooks, bent over their work on folded knees. At my age, just the thought of that makes me cringe. I'd figure something out with a piece of plywood on sawhorses instead.
