Thanks for the information! I did want them to make the "airlock" tops for when I pickle. I drill holes in regular lids right now and insert a rubber gasket and air lock and then just tighten them down well on big half gallon mason jars to make fermented pickles and fermented hot...
I haven't used the tattlers yet but keep reading about them and I may try them. but on the venison and meat canning I almost never get failed seals but if I do it always seems to be on a meat product- :hum mother mentioned that her mother did something that she just remembered recently that she...
You're so welcome.. I had forgotten about this thread.. I do like the small tins of chicken and ham by hormel tho.. they sometimes go on sale for about a buck a can.
I have yards and yards of them. but they seem to be different. in one area close to the house they are the most fragrant things I've ever smelled and small dainty things and then farther out in the back yard and woods they are huge and beautiful but not fragrant at all.
Yup.. got to change stuff for the kiddos! I was just going by the traditional recipes that I have used. if I forget to use the horseradish it won't taste right to my family and I'd never hear the end of it.
I do add a couple other things to the traditional stuff too that is what makes home...
Real cinnamon or what passes for it here in the USA? cassia? and for honey I have personally used it for clearing up a bad case of athletes feet(foot ?) you just wash your feet in nice hot hot hot as you can stand water and then smear a nice coat of icky sticky honey on your tootsies and put on...
My daughter was preggers with my first grandchild and I had an empty sandbox so we just bought about 6 bags of good play sand and made the form and then pulled it out and put it in the sandbox! I now have two grand babies and they both play with the sand in the sandbox and they love the pizza...
Oh yes after tasting the three types I was sent I started thinking about all the different things I grow could be mixed and matched for flavors.
My favorite morning tea has always been Earl Grey and there is a plant that is native here called monarda or Oswego(spelling) and they both taste...
YAY! Moolie I bought hard white wheat just for making real Cream of Wheat but my other grinder is such a PITA that I hadn't made any yet. and Baymule that recipe looks great! since hubs is gonna be gone all next week(company is sending him to North Dakota for a week) I will work on playing...
We have a huge community of Hispanic due to being in Fruit Country! I grew up picking apples and peaches and berries of all sorts with some of the migrant families children-I used to spend nights with their families too. Nellie had the best Gramma ever! She used to let us girls help roll out...
Thanks ORChick! I was going to try that first so I'm glad that you posted the same thing. If I had a kitchen that was bigger than my darn bathroom I'd have a butcherblock rolly table too! I can stand in the middle of my tiny kitchen and reach the sink/stove/counter/pantry cupboards. my...
Haha reminds me of what my daughter did years ago.. she told my hubby that she "caught" a mouse and well with her only being about 10 or so we told her what a brave girl she was and really didn't think much about it.. I was busy doing dinner and I thought hubby had gotten rid of it and he was...
as far as I know the camellia here in US are not toxic but not the same as the Camellia sinensis(the Tea plant). Not sure if I would want to try the camellia here.
I had a small flowering camellia for a long time in the house and the cats loved chewing on it so I went to the ASPA and checked...
I hope it doesn't come up too big here.. and I'm ashamed to say that it still needs another layer but I just this fall got the extra material to finish it and then it got cold so now it is my next spring project.. I have baked bread in there but only one at a time. without the insulating layer...
When I was a girl scout leader we did a Mason bee project- got blocks of discard wood from local lumber yard and a few drills and bits(I have to say that the bits were about the size of a drinking straw) and we let the girls drill holes in the blocks and they put a screw-eye (think hook and eye...
