🔋 Can You Make It Through a Week Off-Grid? 🌿

I bought a large dual fuel generator last year. The plan is to hook it up on our exterior propane tank. Its a 50 gal one. With that I can keep two freezers and pare down to one frig, to keep them running. Sadly, hubs refuses to start up the generator, put a load on it, and make sure its...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Speaking of getting old. I needed to wash our new to us winter comforter. Dog hair, muddy paws, and such. I knew I needed a large washer. I went to the laundromat right in the middle of Battle Ground and found ppl putting their comforter in the ONLY large one there - 49 min cycle. So I drove to...

    What's for dinner?

Two years ago I completely cleaned the Weber gas bbq. It needs it again, and it needs to be refurbished. I've asked my son to do this for me. Order parts, get the dang thing up to speed again. Its 10 years old. So last nite, I had several chicken thighs from '23 and wanted to grill them. Nope...

    Food prices June 2021

You may remember that I volunteer at our small town food pantry. With the County's Main Food Bank warehouse cut of $900,000 in Fed funds, all the pantries are struggling. I stumbled across two gals (there is a 3rd gal too) who have hobby farms. They each have sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks...

What did you do in your garden today?

We got one inch of rain over the last two days. Sooooo helpful!! Now unless a storm comes in from the Pacific, this will be the last of our measurable rain for the next few months. This is when my water bill skyrockets!!

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

I'm south of The Porch, and yes, my pastures are browning up. We don't get any measurable rain until late fall. We are used to brown as a color. Where Hinotori lives is in a drought classification. "On June 5, 2025, the Department of Ecology (Ecology) issued a Drought Emergency Declaration for...

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

It was on the news about how much rain Texas has received. So much in so little time. Weird for sure.

    What's for dinner?

I went into my deep pantry and emerged with 6 items. Some home canned and others old stuff needing to be used up. Voila! Sausage pasta casserole. Its too hot to heat up the regular oven, so I'll fit my casserole pan in my large toaster type oven.
