I have used the zippered, clear plastic bags that some of my linens came in from the store. They're like square bags and they can fit a set of sheets easily. The blankets/comforters are much harder to figure out. I have a cedar-lined storage room that the previous owners built, but it's being...
I didn't want to hijack the thread about phobias/anxiety with something a little less serious, so I figured I'd ask in a separate thread...
I have 4 cats. Only ever wanted 2 or 3, but, well, life happens. And they have gotten along just fine for the past year or so. But ever since I started some...
Wow, D1, thanks for all that information! And Britesea, that theory certainly makes sense.
Maybe I should start with a bee house and see how that goes. I do have a lot of flowers and blossoms, etc. for the bees, but I don't know if there are a lot of bees around. I mean, I see them...
I knew you guys would have great ideas! All of them have possibilities. But my brain just wasn't working when I kept looking at the things. Thanks so much!!
I'll post a picture when I get them done. I might even make the two lamps with separate style shades. :-)
Usually people post great things that they have made/found, etc. I have kind of the opposite problem...I need someone to come up with an idea for me.
I have two lamps bought several years ago at Walmart. http://achievetruyou.biz/floor-lamps-walmart-10/ is the link to a picture of them.
They are...
I haven't seen anything on beekeeping here. I have zero experience in beekeeping, but I have heard so much about colony collapse disorder, etc., and I have noticed that my dwarf fruit trees seem to have NO fruit on them this year. Maybe it's the very late spring, or maybe it's something else...
Not trying to be contentious, just curious...I have a friend whose daughter seemed to be gluten intolerant, but after playing around with various grains, etc. to find what worked for her...it seems she was not allergic to gluten, but to the food additives in commercial bread. Once her family...
BTW, my DIL uses sharpie pens to add highlights to her hair. Works very well. But then, she's a natural dark blond. Don't know if it would work for darker hair.
One of the coolest dyes I ever saw was from across a parking lot. I saw a lady, must have been 80 years old, pushing a shopping cart, and her hair (which I'm sure was pure white originally) was this neon pink-orange sunrise color. It was so bright I could see it from across the lot, and all I...
Sorry to sound lame, but what is the difference between store-bought and "natural" yeast? I remember as a kid my mom had a glass orange juice jar that she kept in the fridge for years. It had what looked to me like chicken feed in it, but she said it was yeast that had been given to her. I don't...
Hi there,
I've been doing a lot of research lately on bread. I was really disappointed to find that even 100% whole wheat, store-bought bread is often no better for you than Wonder bread, because they pulverize the whole grain until it's dust in order to make the bread "lighter" for the...
I had a friend whose mother served canned bread that she made and canned herself. She said it was a sweet bread and she served it with some sort of sweet sauce that was fabulous. But her mom passed away, and with it went the recipe. So I know it's possible, but I wish I knew how!
Hqueen, thank you so much for mentioning mturk. I had never heard of it until you mentioned it. I signed up to do it, and although it's not much money, I've been doing it with my 12-year-old son, and we have a deal where he gets most of the money. He is thrilled to have a way to earn money. So...
I've been slowly remodeling my kitchen and was stumped about the floor. I couldn't afford ceramic tiles but didn't like the vinyl squares much. I was at Lowe's and saw that they had a new (well, at least I hadn't seen it before) idea...they had 18 inch tiles that looked like ceramic, and you...
I've made jams with low/no sugar. There's a special pectin that you have to use, though, and I haven't seen it in awhile. Regular pectin is sour, which is why so much sugar is added. I never had any problems with spoilage. At least with jam, you can see pretty clearly when it's going bad.
Yeah, my mom's official diagnosis is "Wow. I have no idea."
As to beets...for years, I have only been able to grow purple carrots. The greens are great (too bad I hate beet greens, sigh) but my roots NEVER swell up. I can't seem to find any troubleshooting help for it...it seems I'm the only...
I am beginning to think that gardening is the ultimate in optimism. I've been gardening in my suburban yard for upwards of 20 years and have come to the conclusion that it's not gardening, it's me. Every year, I have new ideas, new projects, new plants to grow, and every year I have images of...
My dear friend has MS. Her mother had the progressive version, but hers is relapsing-remitting. She is pretty mild at the moment, but has to take interferon shots several times a week, which is hard on her. One thing that she was told to do that helped hugely is to take large amounts of vitamin...
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned valerian. I read that melatonin isn't good for long-term because it messes with your natural sleep rhythms. But valerian is a rather stinky herb that is in capsule form. You can find it in Walmart. It's funny because my kids and I were watching the British show...
