Does anyone else here like to go to Home Depot, stare at their goods, and remodel their house in their head? I love doing that; I think I've mentally redone my kitchen half a dozen times! :)
I just saw a house with cement shingles. They sound good since they have a 100 year lifetime, but apparently insurance companies don't like them; presumably the shingles cost a great deal to replace.
How do you clean mold from caulk and grout lines in a tub/shower stall? I've tried using a toothbrush with bleach and soft scrub, but it didn't help. The corners of the shower stall look particularly bad between the mold and the reddish residue (iron?).
Does your house or yard have any passive cooling features, such as longer overhangs, deep porches, light colored roofs or shady trees?
We have a light colored roof and our house is longest in the east/west direction, so winter sun comes in but summer sun stays out.
I was in a 1950s house the other day and was amused to note the cabinets were almost gummy because there were so many layers of paint on them! I guess no one had ever stripped them back to the wood before repainting.
How often do AC ducts need to be replaced? Most people I know replace the AC pumps periodically but I've never heard of anyone needing ducts changed at the same time.
Has anyone done any stucco repair? Some of the stucco on my neighbor's house is crumbling away and he's trying to figure out if it'd be better to repair himself or if he needs to hire someone.
My cat tore up the carpet at the bedroom door. The damage is too wide to hide with a wider transition strip, but I do have some remnants of that carpet lying around. What's the best way to repair the carpet using the remnant?
