I took the plunge!
I let Onyx and the lamb out. They seem like any other lamb and her baby. Even better Onyx’s udder looks like it’s been getting a lot more attention then it was these past few days. Maybe she was just to stressed? Hopefully things go well because one of my pure katahdins is...
I don’t know if she’s been eating mommas food I guess she could be if she’s standing on her hind legs to reach. Onyx’s udder looks about right to me not distended or empty. They are looked up indoors in what was originally my turkey juvinile coop they have no acces to anything but what I put in...
I’m at a loss!
It’s been 4 days since I helped this chunky monkey of a lamb eat. We have been providing Onyx with lamb pellets and some hay but we have left baby to work things out on her own. Well take a look at today’s pictures. What is going on here?! I was planning on releasing them to...
So these pictures were taken after two days no assisted feeding tomorrow night I will take more which will be 4 days no assisted feeding. She still looks healthy to me.
So I checked this morning at Onyx’s feeding time and baby still looks pleasantly plump. Not as much as the pictures above but no bones in sight and a nice full belly you can see and feel the fullness. I noticed when I picked up baby Onyx continued to stomp even though she had space to retreat...
Hi,
Do I was under the impression that they had not bonded to the point where Onyx would let her feed on her own. I would feed Onyx every morning and evening and return at night to assist in letting baby feed because I have yet to see it in action no matter how stealthy I try to be. Onyx only...
So this morning they seemed to be ok Onyx’s udder was looking good. I sat back and tried to watch but my presence was obviously irritating Onyx. She stomps when she does not approve. I sat for about 5-10 minutes and when the baby tried to nurse Onyx would move away.they were doing this circle...
Yeah I picked that lamb over her sister because her sister was white with brown spots. Not that it matters but they looked similar and it just seemed right to me. Lol. I will try without tying her legs tomorrow. Thank you all.
I did have one more question for everyone. How long should they remain separated from the heard before being reintroduced in order to encourage them to stay together?
So I have to admit that I forgot to weigh baby last night but this morning Onyx’s udder was very relaxed to they must of worked it out throughout the night. When we went in to feed they were laying down together. We tied Ony’s back legs again so we could try and witness a feed. All I had to do...
You know I seem to have the best luck picking my animals. My little Kathadin heard, my Nigerian dwarf heard and my mini donkeys all hang out together. My Jack does no want human interaction but he is great with the other animals. The Kathadins tend to be a bit shy but I have not had an issue...
:bow
You are amazing!
I washed off all of the Vick’s scent from my hands and Onyx’s udder. I tried to get the baby to latch with no success. I just so happened to check this thread and saw your post. I was lost for a second but figured I had to try everything. So I got a bunch of attempts at...
So no serious issues yet with this pair. I tried to force a latch just now. Had my brother steady her head and somewhat restrained her hind legs. Baby did not want to latch on her own so I stuck my finger in her mouth and opened nicely as I could and put her on the teet. She licked a bit but no...
Here are some more snaps of Onyx And her potential baby. No issues yet that I can see. I couldn’t figure out how to load a video, if that is even possible, which is what I wanted to show everyone in order to get some feed back on what they thought of their interaction. I figured next best thing...
Here are some more snaps of baby and Onyx post Vick’s. It seems like it’s going ok to me. But baby resists our attempts to help her nurse. Maybe she’s just not hungry...?
