I had a very tasty New Belgian Abbey beer last night. About 20 minutes later my face turned bright red (across my nose and cheeks) and felt really hot. I tried to look up the ingredients to see if it had wheat, but I guess it is some kind of secret recipe :p

So does this sound like a yeast reaction? A gluten reaction? I do react to wheat sometimes, but never off of a small beer or never just a glowing red face. Weird. Any ideas?

Hmmm- I get that without the beer.

I have been told it's called a hot flash.

But then, I am ancient.

some one i know has a weird reaction to the holiday beers - from the spices apparently.

but

sometimes certain wines make me flush too (and not just after drinking the whole bottle!).

i'm going with maybe the yeast??

Yes! fruits, spices, and esoteric yeast strains, malt etc. No expert here but it sure sounds like it.

I have that reaction to sulfites in wine, along with an uncomfortably racing heart. No more wine for me. I do whine, though.

I can't drink any beer nor most wines. I have reactions very similar to yours. Definitely a sensitivity.
I pretty much decided that it was the metabisulphites used in wines having made some without and had no effects.
Beer- never able to drink it and when I did I got a headache after only a few sips and an immediate hangover sensation, in addition to your symptoms.
Didn't improve the quality of my life, so why bother.

I think sometimes you just have to say "okay, no more of that brand".

Hubby can't drink Red Stripe. He had a bottle and was fine, but the next day when he had a bottle he woke up and started having blind spots, which is the prelude to a migraine. And boy was it a migraine, meds all day, called into work, threw up, hid in the bed all day long. So, no more Red Stripe for him. He can drink other beers just fine, and a couple weeks after that event we went to dollar beer night and he tried several different bottles of other types with no ill effect. Just something about Red Stripe.
