I know a few of you do....

I have a question....in your experience, does your insurance cover a visit to a naturopath or is that out of pocket?

We are about to et new health insurance and I would like to get a few of us in to have evaluations....just wondering how it works.

My insurance does cover it, with the same co-pay as for MD's. However, they do not separate them out on their lists of providers, so you have to carefully search the list for ND instead of MD after the names. Or call a ND and ask if they take my insurance.

Of course, it depends on your plan.

It will likely depend on the state that you live in as states have regulations on this. Washington i think is a good one for this.

Best to call the insurance company you are considering and see what they say.

They did not cover in my previous state of Utah but they did cover some acupuncture and some massage... depended on what kind of practitioner was delivering.

I think that ND or NMD is only licensed in about 13 states.

Our old insurance did. This was my main concern when DH changed jobs last month. We got lucky and the new insurance does as well. We haven't actually used it yet though. DS has an appt. next week. Their insurance coordinator has a copy of our cards already and is calling the company to verify. Here it seems to vary by provider and insurance company.
