Hey Guys -

Has anyone ever used Timber Oil for an inside project? Someone gave me some and recommended it for curly maple. I tried some on a small offcut and it looks great. I used Watco Natural Danish Oil on half and Australian Timber on the other half. The Austrailian seems much brighter and really pops the maple figuring.

But I don't know if it will last, fade or yellow, etc. Anyone know? I think it is a mixture of Liseed Oil and Tung Oil and it's supposed to be for outdoor use.

Thanks,
David

Both linseed oil (aka BLO) and tung oil are used on gunstocks which is outdoor use. They are not meant for constant exposure to the weather. Both will dry and work well inside. However, the carrier or solvents may pose a hazard and should be used with lots of ventilation. Rags used with these should be spread out to dry before disposal or sealed in cans underwater to avoid spontaneous combustion.
Furniture has been finished with BLO for many years. It doesn't yellow and is easily touched up when scratches appear. Not a tough finish, it does have a warm glow to it on fine wood.
