Power Conserver
Hi ya'll! I'm new here (but from BYC..same username). Hmm...to introduce myself... My name is Shelby. My husband and I live in Southern California with 3 dogs, 1 cat and 30 chickens... no kids. We live in a 1/2 acre, which is barely enough to keep up with our gardening, chickens, fruit trees and DHs greenhouse that he is starting to build, but we're doing what we can for now. We DIY everything we can in the house including removing ALL the carpet and put in sustainably harvested bamboo wood flooring throughout the house (LOVE IT! Between dogs and my allergies, I will never go back to carpet!). I am currently finishing up my Master's degree in geology (only a few months left!) and look forward to continuing my career in the environmental field (I work on groundwater...particularly cleaning up contamination). The plan is that DH will quit work when I am done to work on our property and take classes in sustainable agriculture (his personal interest, which will be helpful).
Hmm...what else. We live very frugally (though there is still room for improvement), but realize that in today's world, we'll still need one income. Luckily, I like my career and it is a beneficial field to our future. I am learning to can (so far homemade chicken broth, spaghetti sauce and jams). DH is perfecting his gardening skills. DHs best friend is similar to us (SS interests), so it helps having a support system close by!
Our hobbies: becoming self-sufficient, hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, playing pool (billiards) ....nothing fancy.
Well, that's pretty much it! Did I miss anything?
I look forward to meeting ya'll!!!
