We have lived in our house over 10yrs and starting this year (thanks to my chickens) we have been bartering a lot with our nice neighbors :clap When they found out we were getting chickens (for eggs) they gave us several pounds of ground beef, steaks, etc. from a supply they received in lieu of payment for repairing someone's race-car engine. Then we just received 5-dozen ears of corn! I just finished freezing it all :) I always give them eggs and will be giving them salsa once I finish another batch. I love this!

Awesome! I would love this kind of relationship! I do a bit of bartering with my massage therapy business, I get some book-keeping done, electrical work, occasional use of pick-up trucks, etc. Traded twice this month for the use of classroom space in exchange for a free spot in my classes. Love it!

I barter with our neighbors all the time. The good cool neighbors that is. They are in the "recycling" business. They haul unwanted stuff and sell from their house. The place looks like a junk yard, which is not what they intended, but that's the way things go sometimes. We hear a lot of: oh poor you, having to live next door to someone like that! We correct them and let them know we feel blessed. Whenever we need something, we just go next door and say, Hey can I snoop around I'm looking for something to ...fil in the bank... make something. If we find the sort of thing we're looking for, we ask what vegetable they want for it. Works for both of us.
Did a lot of that this past weekend.

I love bartering/trading! It seems it often starts as a gift that is then returned in kind. I gave my friend a pile of potatoes, and she came back with a pint of her first-year honey :)

At the farmer's market, the vendors trade back and forth quite a bit. Cheese curds for garlic, chard for tomatoes, whatever each person does not grow themselves.

We also trade eggs for freshly ground cornmeal and flour from a cousin. When sweet corn is going crazy like it is now, we try to give it everyone who will take it. Sometimes we get nice treats back. Either way, it's fun to share the extras!

I love the bartering too. I have a friend...she has milk goats. We trade milk for eggs. Just got another gallon of milk, for 4 dozen eggs. LOVE IT! I have been makeing cheese from the milk, and freezing it. As soon as I get a big batch, I am going to make stuffed shells....Ohhhhh yum!
