Senate Bill S 510 Food Safety Modernization Act vote imminent: Would outlaw gardening and saving seeds

Pam I think this is exactly what you were worried about.

If you ask me this is the next step in the whole "controlling the world with food" scenario. Scary!!!

Oooookay, maybe I'm stupid or something, but being unwilling to just blindly believe all the screamin' meemies out there on the internet and their website claims...

... could someone please show me where the heck Bill S 510 "outlaws gardening and saving of seeds".

What I am seeing is that it regulates food distributors/processors, possibly also CSAs and small farmers and roadside produce stands (depending on whether the attached amendment is passed with the bill), things like that.... not you and me and our own veg gardens.

Mind you I am not in favor of anything that imposes impossible paperwork or fee regulations on small farms and CSAs and such... but that is whole a different thing than "outlawing gardening and saving of seeds".

Here is a link to the govtrack summary of the bill http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s111-510&tab=summary and you can access the full text and so forth from that page too.

If the bill passes, then! we will start to see proposed regulations like this post is talking about.

Uh, "I fear that this is the camel's nose in the tent and may be followed by other bills that *would* try to regulate gardening and saving of seeds" is a whole lot different than "this bill would outlaw them".

I dont plan on stopping my little homestead over the senate. I doubt this is a high priority of theirs. Altho on the marijauna thing, plenty around here hide it, not me btw. But a lot around here garden so I dont think it would be heavily enforced.
