I was just wondering if anyone had ever started a post on good SS books to read? I tried searching but didn't really come up with anything. For example, I just got done reading "The Good Life" by Sherry Ackerman. Not really a true blue how to SS book. More of just a why you might choose to live this lifestyle, her own personal experiences and thoughts with a little philosophy thrown in. It was a really good book and I thought, what better place to get more recommendations on SS books than here! :D

And my hubby and I just signed up to go to Blue Rock Station in Philo, Ohio. Going for a goat 101 thing of sorts, raising to milking and cheesemaking and such plus a tour of all of their "recycled buildings". Just wondering if anyone had ever been there before? It looks like a pretty neat place.

Ditto!!! never heard of it! As for books I like the magazine mother earth news, foxfire books, and the encyclopedia of country living... Many also have mentioned joe stallin (I think is his name) he has a lot of books out that are supposed to be good...

Its near Zanesville. They have all kinds of seminars etc and even built a greenhouse out of 2 liter pop bottles (I'm really excited to see that!)

I love the foxfire books too! I'll have to check out Stallin.

The guy's name is Joe Salatin and he has several books about how he raises cattle, chickens, pigs and rabbits on his farm in Va. I have heard him speak in person and although he is rather full of himself he does have some very interesting ideas.
