It's been about 20 years since the last serious California drought but all the noise is that this year it may effect central valley farmers.
There have been news reports of farmers letting field go fallow so even if there is a superabundance of rain from now on, certain crops may be less this year and consequently more costly.
Some crops are annual so that a shortage can't be recovered later in the season- this seems to be mostly almonds.
Others might be available with a later replanting if there is enough rain but it's not looking good at this point- tomatoes seem to be what is mostly mentioned.
How real all this is I'm not sure as it may have political overtones- the legislature wants to put more water project bonds on the ballot so they may be crying wolf- bonds are one of the things that have cause California's political debacles in the last few years. Maybe the stimulous money plays into it????? I just don't know.
A lot of what California grows can be grown elsewhere during the summer- things like lettuce and other fruit beside citrus. I don't know if raisens are a biggie in Califronia or not- so much is produced out side the US at the moment.

I decided to stock up on tomato paste as that is one thing I do use and have never produced for myslef- just too much work.
No end of the world scenario- just a thought to stock up if you do use a lot of a product produced in California.
