I am moving to the city at the end of the month.

The apartment I'll be staying in has a phone jack, so I could purchase a phone and hook it up, BUT I've been suggested to get a cell phone.

I know nothing about cell phones, only that when your car is broken down on the side of the road and you're being chased by a mad man with an axe - they never work.

I've never been big on the connected-by-the-hip thing either..

So what can anyone tell me about them? What are the pros and cons? What is a good brand? I can barely work a regular phone as it is. Maybe I'm not cut out for it?

Yes...axe murderers all seem to have jamming devices of some sort :D

I have been with Sprint for about 10 years. I now have a blackberry, but that is WAY more technology than you might want to be bothered with. They have simple pay as you go phones you might want to look in to.

Anyone here tried Virgin Mobile? I hear bad stuff about Cricket.

How often do you talk on the phone-seriously. My girlfriend, who is here in Canada for three years, did not get a land line. she uses a pay as you go cell phone. but she is out of the house alot, and she need to be accessible in case something is up with her kids at school.

You have to weigh the costs of both. Me--I have a pay as you go cell phone, and a land line. The only reason I got a cell phone was for me and the kids to share. DS goes out dirtbiking, and dd goes out horseback riding. I wan tthem to have a cell phone for the just in cases. My land line has internet service. I do believe that if you get one of those newfangled cell phones with internet access--you pay through the nose for them. If your not a gabber, I wouldn't think a cell phone would be worth it or necessary, unless you got a really good deal. but I doubt you would get one. We watch american tv, and I've seen the commercials. You seriously need to call around and see what kind of deals you can work out. If you are in an area where there is competition between providers, you might be able to get a realy good deal on either land line or cell phone.

Congrats on the move. :)

Gee. Sally and I could talk for hours on end sometimes.
I know the manager said that highspeed internet would cost about $20-$30 a month.

I'm going to need to get a lot of cleaning jobs.

I vote for the Magic Jack.

And you should carry a baseball bat with 3-inch nails sticking out of the business end. Oh, and wear those steel toe boots with 3-inch nails sticking out the front, too. And you'll need to wear sunscreen.

Disclaimer: I am NOT an electronic nerd, nor gas-powered.

I am up late, hua? It is only 12:somethin or nother.

My eyes are too weak to read anymore in the dark so I came in here to see who was also up. Just us chickens eh?

That sleepy-time thingy? PM-in you now. :)

(Did I tell you that the stupid "l" key still doesn't work so I'm using two keyboards to get this message across? It is a pain in the rump.

Do you need some xtra horse shoe irons for your bat?
