Hey Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or ideas on building a wooden hot tub. Cedar is definitely the best material. What joints would be best between the slats? Best way to attach the walls to the base. Thanks in advance! Does anyone know where to get the metal bands to attach it all together?

Every hot tub I have seen that had any wood associated with it, also had a fiberglass insert where the water was held.

Can you make them using pitch instead of fiber glass?

Years ago I made a single seat hot tub from western red cedar.I used a canoe joint set of router bits. For the bands I used 3/4" banding strapping. The heater was an old fuel oil drip type army surplus imersion heater. The tub had a few small leaks for a couple of hours until the wood swelled up.My client had an allergy to silicone so I didn't use caulking. The canoe bits are not cheap and so far I have only seen them come with a 1/2" shank although I have heard they come in 1/4" as well. They would come in handy for making buckets as well.Hope this helps.Ed.
