I just had to share this without risking hijacking another thread.

Background: Our rooster disappeared about 6 or 8 weeks ago. We searched the yard, the neighborhood--nothing, not even a pile of bloody feathers. He didn't come back the next day either like he's done in the past. Nearly a month went by, no more roo roo.
Then one day I made a quick run to the store and while at the self checkout counting my sheckles, my cell phone rang....

DS11-MOM ROOS BACK!!

me-WHAT?!? No way

ds11-(excited, breathless & talking fast) a neighbor said roo had escaped the yard, gotten into another neighbors garage without their knowing, let out a big cock a doodle doo and scared the biscuits out of them. THEN somehow ended up at another neighbors house & has been staying there the whole time. But HE'S BACK, HE'S BACK.

me-Wow that IS exciting, I sure thought he was a goner for sure

ds11-yeah me too. Isn't that great? Roo had an adventure & now he's back home.

me-yeah it is, I'll be home in a few minutes. Love ya, bye

ds11-Mom WAIT! Are ya there?

me-yep, still here

ds11-Mom.....Roos already raping the hens!

Yeah I told him "Roos probably just lonely since he's been gone & needs a little lovin"

To conclude that story.....the next day a lady came to our house that lived up the road a bit & said it was her friends that roo had been staying with & since they didn't have any other pets they had grown quite fond of roo & really missed him & would we be willing to trade-she'd give us one of her roos, if we'd give our roo to her friend?
HUH? but, but, but that's our roo, we & the hens have missed him and he hasn't been home a whole 24 hours. How about you take the messed up laying hen instead? (the one I thought was eating her eggs, but may just be soft/fragile shelled-even though they get plenty of protein, calcuim & sunshine :hu )

She says 'no they don't want hens just the roo-how about I give you a hen & a roo? no wait, I'll give you 2 hens & a roo'

hubby says COOL, that's a great trade-1 for 3, we'll take it! :smack I was still reluctant only because I wasn't sure how a new roo would do with our existing witch hens & Rooroo was the last of our original flock.
The lady assured me her roo was not aggressive, the hens were bantam, good layers, sitters & brooders.
I did perk up at the sitting & brooding part since none of our hens have ever shown interest. So now we have 4 hens & 1 roo. I'll try to post pics in a bit

This is our original flock right after we first got them a couple of years ago. Since it was a spur of the moment decision, we had to rig up something fast until hubby built the coop.

This is the current bunch taken yesterday. Misty the problem layer is the big black hen and Arnold Schwartzenegger aka Arnie the big rock who hasn't laid at all in the last couple of months. The little black hen hasn't laid yet and I don't know if you can see the whitish hen but she is just to the left of the little black one and facing away from the camera with a little black tail, whitish with spots body & brown head. Her eggs are small, cream/light brown colored and hard as a rock to crack. The new roo is quite colorful and no aggression toward anyone. So yeah I'm happy with the trade.

We've had these now for a couple of weeks and haven't named any of them yet. Except to say 'the white one', 'the black one' or 'the roo'

ETA: had to fix the pics and anyone have any ideas about the breeds? :hu

What color legs does the Roo have? I can't tell for sure cuz I can't see all of him, but he looks a lot like the roo I used to have, Pretty Boy. He was some type of Easter Egger, but don't know if he was a mutt or some type of pure bred. (I got him as an egg.)
