I've got some Christmas $ burning a hole in my pocket! I would like to add to my SS library. I'm a public library junkie but sometimes you just need books that other people haven't sneezed on! So what is your favorite SS book that you would turn to if the internet broke, there was 4 feet of snow in your driveway, and your telephone line had been cut!

I also love magazines because it's a monthly present! I currently get Grit which usually has a couple of articles that I can use. Anyone pick up that first issue of Urban Farm?

Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon

The Mother Earth News CD collection of all their back issues

Those are the two that immediately popped in my head

I just copied this from another thread because I want to get it. Can't remember who posted a recommendation of it though! It was in Pamspride's journal.

The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery, and my newest favorite, Wild Fermentation by Sanor Katz. For mags, I like Backwoods Home.

So Easy to Preserve put out by the University of Georgia.

Has all the food storage and methods of putting by.

Very good book for the SS person trying to learn to live of the land means you must be able to preserve food for the winter. I adore pulling out food I put up during the summer, now when it is all cold and dreary. It tastes twice as sweet!

MONEY burning a whole in your pocket??

LOL

Us frugal types need to hang onto money...HA HA HA

give yourself a challenge----see how long you DON'T spend that money!

All my Christmas money is going to my vacation in the fall....long way off, and yes I am tempted to spend it...lol..but I won't. :p

I really like Small Farm Today magazine. Check it online.
Just google Small Farm Today and all the articles and such are online. Good little magazine and cheap to purchase.

If you don't have it, you must get a copy of the best book out there regarding self-sufficiency:

The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency, by John Seymour. It's worth every damn nickel.

Since it's published in the UK, it's actually cheaper and easier to get if you order it through Amazon.com in the UK (link above.)
