Mom has two apple trees in the yard, plus I'm sure I could gather from other places (friends/family). I absolutely LOVE cider and can drink a gallon a day when it's in season (fortunately it doesn't give me the liquid tooters!) How many apples (pounds or whatever measurement) are needed for a gallon? I still have to see if the one mill is open, and the prices.

Finally found some good info. It takes approximately a bushel (approx. 42lbs of apples) to make 3 gallons of cider. :)

How would you make cider without a cider press?

There are several ways. Some juicers work, blender, food processor, etc. Or you can make your own press. I'm actually going to go the lazy way. There's a cider mill near here where you take your apples, dump them in their huge baskets, and they press it for you.
