I've got 2" wide faux wood slat type blinds on the kitchen window. They are greasy dirty and I was wondering if it's possible to clean them in the bathtub with a hand held spray head. Mostly I am worried about the strings that hold them together and if it will deteriorate them.

I've washed our vinyl blinds at least 5 times so far and who knows how old they were when we bought the house. I've had one break. :hu

IME they usually have synthetic 'strings', and are not bothered by a bath.

However if it is GREASY kitchen-type dirt, it is real unlikely to spray off anyhow, you will likely have to scrub each one individually with a soapy rag or scrubbie. You could use the bathtub to rinse of course.

JME, good luck, I'd say "have fun" but, really, cleaning miniblinds... :p

That is how I clean mine. I do wrap the cord around something to keep it from tangling. Spool of some sort. Simple Green works great on blinds, maybe a little elbow grease. Hang in sun to dry.

I actually used to work in a window blind factory and we had a cleaning service (I never did that job but watched it done).

We immersed the blinds in water (with an "ultrasonic" agitator, which really bothered my ears and gave me headaches) and a cleaner that had a mild degreaser in it, so the bathtub should be fine.

I'd use a mild dish soap.

If there is any greasy dirt on the cords, it likely won't come as clean as the slats, but with a bit of soaking and scrubbing the slats should come out like new.

For scrubbing, a brush meant for washing dishes works great.

If the blinds are older, and have been exposed to a lot of sun, you may get some peeling so don't soak too long :)

Oh, a re: your question about the cords deteriorating--a wet clean won't affect them much, but hot sun just kills them over time and you'll eventually need to get them re-strung. They are usually a braided polyester or nylon with a nylon core.

Thanks for the info. These blinds came with the house when it was new. I'm quite sure they are molded in the color white. They can be had at HD for 69.99. So if they fall apart I'll just dump them and get something else. Trying to not spend the money if I can. :)
