I just got a phone call from Chase that we have a credit card with. Once again, we have fraudulent charges on our card. At least this time it wasn't as frustrating as the experience 7 years ago when someone somehow got my husband's social security number.

BUT, on the good side, the people at Chase were very nice, polite, took off every charge, cancelled the card, are notifying the credit reporting agencies and red flagging all our accounts and social security numbers...again.

We never did figure out how this whole thing got started. It's not like we hand out our information or buy much at all using a credit card or online. But it happens.

Honestly, I'd like to line these people up just slap 'em. :(

That's an idea, but I don't know that they would provide any other service that automatically comes with having our information 'red flagged'.

The last time, someone was trying to get credit cards sent to them in CA and also PA. We live in Kansas. Every time, the potential credit card issuer called us and asked if we had requested the card. The only problem was when we moved, so had a new address and new phone number. Trying to convince everyone (businesses, etc) that it truly was me, now that took a bit! :)

Marianne, the company I use is great. They unravel the big mess these jerks make of your credit report and SS# and track down everything for you. I'd be afraid if they ripped you off on your Chase card, wouldn't they have all your info now? you know, to try this again :hu FYI, a lot of your info can be gotten from something as simple as the little key fob Kroger cards. They take basic info from there, and fill in the blanks via the internet :/ It's not all that hard....what's hard I'd imagine is finding someone these days worth stealing their info in the first place

I recently did a credit freeze on all 3 credit reports. That will only stop people from getting new cards. If they have a current account they could still use it. Gald the cresit card companies still cover most of the charges.

I keep telling dh never to plug in his real card number online. Shoot, I guess anywhere you use the card people can steal the numbers.

I have alerts on mine that notify me when there are purchases over $20.

We bought one of those "pre-paid" cards for our online purchases and I load it up with the amount I know I am going to spend. I bought some software online a few years ago and after the initial purchase went through, the company kept trying to charge the card every single day for 2 weeks! I finally just threw that card away and got a new one.

I got the following email from Chase yesterday. Maybe these happenings are connected?:

Chase is letting our customers know that we have been informed by Epsilon, a vendor we use to send e-mails, that an unauthorized person outside Epsilon accessed files that included e-mail addresses of some Chase customers. We have a team at Epsilon investigating and we are confident that the information that was retrieved included some Chase customer e-mail addresses, but did not include any customer account or financial information. Based on everything we know, your accounts and confidential information remain secure. As always, we are advising our customers of everything we know as we know it, and will keep you informed on what impact, if any, this will have on you.

Yes! I have an online business and I had a guy that ordered a few times using a credit card that was good only during the time his order was being processed. That was several years ago, but it sure makes sense to have something like that.

Yes, I'm sure my husband's SS# is still floating around. But by having everything 'red flagged', nothing is happening without a phone call to us and there was attempted activity only for about a week or two. When we moved here, we even had a hard time getting phone service connected because of it.

Our daughter had her info stolen years ago. Someone had broken into a major insurance company and stolen computers, so they notified everyone. She thought the fraud alerts stayed on your info for 7 years. And it was about 7 years ago that we got that first call.

I guess I just don't understand the mentality of these people. I am so careful with payment information that I get from people, hard copies destroyed after two weeks and no information stored on site. Credit card information is open to two people only, and is automatically deleted after the payment clears.

But you never know where/when they got your info.
