Okay, so I used this recipe http://www.ehow.com/how_4846338_yogurt-crock-pot.html to make yogurt in the crock pot yesterday. I may have messed it up by adding the honey BEFORE letting it sit all night. The finished product is the tiniest bit, well kinda stringy. Not a lot, just the drip that comes off the spoon when i transfer it to the small containers sorta ends in a stretchy drip. It smells amazing, but I don't want to taste it until it is cold. And until I know for sure it isn't ruined! Can you help?

Home made yogurt is going to be naturally thinner and runnier than store bought. Commercial yogurt is full of fillers :sick Adding the honey may be what is giving you that weird texture. Next time strain your finished yogurt to thicken it (or add pectin...or use cream instead of milk). THEN add the honey once it is done.

Now just because the texture is off does NOT mean this is ruined. Use it in smoothies.

The honey likely got different bacteria to proliferate during incubation. If you used storebought pasteurized milk, it should not be stringy and that runny. I would be suspicious of it and toss it and start over....but then, I am suspicious of anything that might keep me in the bathroom for hours..... :p

Why can't I see typos until they post? Argh. I corrected the title.

Okay, so one vote for eat it and one vote for toss it. Think I will wait a bit longer...

We have cast iron stomachs around here. Free's constitution is a little more delicate. Knowing what exactly went in to my yogurt, I would eat it without fear. If you tend to have issues that might require more paperwork than you care to do in a day, toss it and try again

No advice on whether to eat it or not, just piping up to say I bought myself a crock pot for the first time last week. Pot roast was a success, and the next thing I'm going to try is yogurt. I will be sure not to add flavorings until it is done.

I would toss it. Same thing about the wrong bacteria multiplying from the sugar as Free said. BTW, did the titile origionally read "Crack Pot Yogurt"? because that is what I read the first time I saw it and wondered what kind of yogurt that was.

It said Crick Pot. :he

Well, I looked it up and I think the texture is okay. It smells perfect, is a little thinner than commercial, and the product just sort of moves, doesn't break or crack. So, I tasted it and it tasets like the starter yogurt, but a tiny bit sweeter. If I die, it's on me....

Okay, so with some of my raspberry jam, it is a knock out.

I have a LOT of yogurt. Can I freeze it?
