Does anyone here have any experience with cutting granite countertops? I want to save money and do them myself, but don't know exactly what tools I will need. Can someone tell me what tools I might need to do this job?
Its just like cutting any stone. I use a handheld diamond saw blade on a angle grinder. Also you can rent a large diamond wet saw at the home center. I don't suggest this because you wont get a perfect strait edge. Now if you are going to cut out a sink hole that would be covered than that would be OK.
Granite is super expensive and the cost to have it cut at the factory is not that bad. I am a total do it yourself er, but some things are best left to the pros with the specialized equipment.
We put a water softener system in our new house, and we need to install the small water faucet that comes with the system to get the softened water line to the sink in the kitchen. We also have granite countertops, so we need to cut a hole to install the faucet. Would you suggest an expert, or do you think this is something my (very handy) husband could do? I would hate to damage our countertops.
Got to say if it wasn't for the material being granite I would be tempted to do it myself withdrills or grinders. However because of the financial implications if it went wrong I would leave it to the experts every time. What may seem like a lot now may seem like nothing compared to if you managed to break the granite.
