OK so my three year old daughter is SEVERELY allergic to cows milk. We dont have any goats milk yet, hopefully by spring. We need some new dairy free recipes!!! Do any of you know of any good dairy free foods, main meals, snacks, desserts? I cant afford the expensive ingredients but we need some more variety!

I have three kids (well they are boyfriends children but still) that are at the house every weekend. That means 7 meals at home which I have to find different meals for. They love pickles and pancakes (i have a recipe for some with no milk). They basically eat the same things over and over so I'm with you on this one!!!! I need some other options for them....well for me....they are to young to realize they are eating the same things over and over and over. Thanks!

I can't help on the *dairy free* problem, but will toss in that many recipes that call for cheese really don't need it. My DH doesn't have any problem with dairy, but will not eat cheese, so I have had to adapt. I know that if you are buying cheese anyway you could just get goat cheese, but it is also good to know, I think, that you often don't really need it at all. I even make what we call *macaroni and cheese without cheese*, though it has milk, so won't help you. I read on one of your other posts that you cook from scratch - that is great, and a long step forward on any kind of special menu. Good luck.
And :welcome

The amazing part about is so many products have dairy in them and you dont even realize it.....bread, butter, chicken broth, some spices, non-dairy creamers, some cereals, crackers, some bbq chips and other chips, breading for meats, some deli meats are packed with Casein, non dairy /veggie cheese, the list goes on and on!

Hi! and Welcome!. first, if you are making something, just replace the milk with water or another DF liquid. And if you made your own bread chicken broth etc, you could make them dairy free too.

Leslie, a couple of years ago my DH had thyroid cancer, and had to be on a low iodine diet - only for a few weeks, luckily for both of us . I really learned about reading labels; I always have, but I really needed to then. Anything that contained salt, or dairy, or eggs, or soy was out - and just about everything that is not in its pure, raw form contains at least one of those. Luckily I like to cook, and I like a challange, so we managed. Actually, as limited diets go the low iodine one is relatively easy (don't tell DH that - he hated it with a passion! But that was just because he dislikes not being able to have what he wants NOW, rather than in 4 weeks ). Reading on on-line thyroid forums I learned that many people were absolutely stymied because they didn't know how to cook, and how to avoid the processed food. I wasn't feeding small children (other than my DH ), so didn't have that added difficulty, so I know your job is harder than mine was (and longer lasting), but it is possible to avoid the nasties when you need to. And SS has a number of good and inventive cooks to help you when you need it.

we do a pretty good job at avoiding things. The trouble we have is we find we keep eating the same things over and over and over again! just looking for some new things to try. I do cook from scratch a lot because its easier and healthier in my opinion and most of the time cheaper! I also enjoy it but its time to get creative because we need a change...things we love are now Oh that again.........:/

In my son's opinion rice milk is not even food. He loves almond milk though.
