Dishwasher repair

When we bought the place a little over a year ago the seller had just put in all new appliances. Well the dishwasher quit last night.

Idk a darn thing about them but poor men have poor ways. I messed around with it and found everything was working except it wouldn't spray. Which is weird because the pump would drain it.

Turns out there are 2 pumps. A drain pump and a circulation pump. I tore it down and pulled the circulation pump (thanks youtube). Then I call whirlpool about the part. Wouldn't ya know it, it only had a one year warranty and they wanted $172 for the pump plus shipping.......its a $300 appliance.


No luck searching the web. The cheapest I could find was $100 and I feel like that's kinda high. I have to change a similar pump in my washing machine every other year and it's never been more than $60, it's actually $20 now....(I need to order one just to have on hand!)


Anyway I finally got my fill and looked up whirlpool USA on fb. I messeged them and told them the price was effed up. In not so nice words. Next thing I know a guy calls me. We talk for a few mins. He asked what I do for a living, how I know it's broke and then says he's gonna send me a pump for free.


Hopefully my trouble shooting is right and I get it all back together and it works. Stay tuned

Well - proof that the squeaky wheel gets the grease! That's fantastic!

p.s. Know anything about microwaves? Mine quit making things hot...it still runs and the turntable turns - but no heat. Ugh.

the only thing I know about microwaves is how to pull the transformer out, rewind it and make a welder out of it.

I have one in the works I started a couple years ago. I need to get around to finishing it. It's a little more complex design tho. I'm using 4 xformers, a bridge rectifier and a large home made inductive reactor I made from a microwave transformer. It should weld at 150 amps in dc if I ever get done.

Wow - that's impressive! I had no idea...

After a little research it looks like my microwave problem might be a diode - supposed to be a pretty cheap fix. Off to youtube for more info!

so the part finally came in today. Sorry no pics but I had to think and try to remember how to put it all back together.

It took me over two hours to get it apart the other day and 30 mins to put it back together and test it. So far it seems to be working fine on its test run. Spraying water and everything!


Not too hard but if it goes out again I'll buy another dishwasher before spending $200 on a pump motor.
