This why the rest of the world hates us. Stupid people who pay 24k for a finger painting.

She's just a kid having fun, who's got a great marketing team. Someone somewhere along the way must have liked one of her pieces and a star was born.

I used to be an Art teacher. Most kids are incredibly creative, like to make a mark on things once they learn they can, and love to tell stories about their work. But this kid is just playing--they've given her big colourful canvasses to play with, and she's going to milk it for all it's worth.

Unfortunately they've told her she's an "artist" and she's starting to get a big head and a sense of entitlement. She's going to be one heck of an interesting teenager.

Yes, a large part of art is who is backing you. If Agora gallery says it's art and has a show. Then it is art.

I would say that if Agora did what they said and accepted the work without knowing the girl's age, it has some validity. They have not built up their reputation and been in the industry this long without knowing their stuff.

I'm not personally a big fan of abstract expressionism but believe it or not, there are valid ways to critique artwork that is purely abstract. Line, color, composition, etc. Not every piece of abstract art is something a kindergartner could do... but the great thing about kindergartners is that they don't have preconceived notions of how things should be.

Whoa, Bubba...you're back! Last I heard you were out of funds, out of internet connectivity and out of gas. Glad to see you back!

I want to know more about your technology inventions...

There was a recent phenom 5 year old whose paintings sold for thousands. She was way beyond her years, and people found it unbelievable a child could paint like that.

Turns out she couldn't. Her daddy did.

For a kid they were incredible. For an adult contemporary artist it was unremarkable.

This was all documented in the doc "My Kid Could Paint That". The director started out believing in it. So did the mom. Dude was pretty much outed on the film.

Now the little artist lives with mom, without dad.

Do I "GET" this? Absolutely not. A bunch of crap stuck on a board - whoopie!! I think I would pay a couple bucks for her work but only if it's on 3/4" pressure treated plywood. I need some for my chicken coop. :D

Edited to add: I could sell my coop poop boards before I scrape them into the compost pile. The colors and hews are magnificent and the textures are exemplary. Well, I guess so.

Having a very artistic son, I have attended several children's art displays to see his creations honored. I have always been humbled and amazed at the beautiful, beautiful, things that all the kids created. I think when you give children a license to create art they are not inhibited about being "good" like an adult is and they produce things of beauty. My favorite art in my home are things that all three of my children created that I framed.

However, THAT stuff that child painted was just junk if you asked me. If THAT was abstract art, it just goes to show that abstract art is really a bunch of hooey, someone just threw some expensive paint on an expensive canvas and chose some pretty colors. Anyone could do that.

I agree that child will be a beast at about age 16 if they don't watch themselves. I've seen musical prodigys that were amazing, but this just isn't in the same realm, lets see her paint a portrait as well and I'd call her an artist.
