Netflix just recently added one of my favorite television progams of all time to instant play, Jim Henson's Storyteller. They have both the European and Greek Myth seasons. Oh, how much I loved this as a child!

I remember when storytales and fables were big in 80s children's programing. There use to be a series on Nickelodeon that had several animated lesser known stories and few on HBO. Remember the one in the early 80s that had famous actors like Christopher Reeve that did stories like Cinderella and the Emperor's Clothes. Oh, don't forget about Ducktales. Use to love their takes on Shakespeare and Greek Myths. It was very educational and entertaining. Also, Wishbone was a good one.

There was also a show on HBO that was about children meeting famous composers and artists in history. Really loved that one as a teen.

Miss those days. I wish they would bring back such solid programming to children's television. It seems like now it is only a simple moneymaking scheme. All the educational programs are for preschoolers and everything for older children is recycled crap. Sorry, was about to go off on another tangent.

I forgot about the current American Girl series. So, not all children's television is a loss. That is a well done set of TV movies. It lets children have a glimpse of what life was like in key periods of US history.

Other than that, it is pretty much at a loss. Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and so forth are fun and entertaining but lack that heart and intellectual stimulation of earlier shows.

Also, does anyone remember the Summer programming that PBS use to put on for older children and teens? They had Square One and 3,2,1 Contact. These shows taught me quite a bit about math and science.

Oh, Nickelodeon had a program on for a while were a scientist taught children basic scientific principles through simple experiements. Just remembered it was called Mr. Wizard. I could go on and on.
