Has anyone else heard that the use of Lavender should be avoided by those with cancer? A lady at work who is a breast cancer survivor said they were told that Lavender stimulates tumor growth and to avoid products with it.
I know some of the best milled soaps are Lavender, it is in tea cakes, body washes, aroma therapy items, and Herbs of Provence mixtures, to name a few.
She said she doesn't know why women with cancer aren't told about the effects of things like Lavender. It was a brief conversation due to time constraints.

ETA*** To clarify somewhat; She said it acted on estrogen dependent tumors.

SUGAR stimulates tumor growth. So do insulin growth factors.

"In a case-control study of 1,866 women in Mexico, those who derived 57 or more percent of their total energy intake from carbohydrates incurred a risk of breast cancer 2.2 times higher than women with more balanced diets. Dietary patterns in Mexico are characterized by higher consumption of carbohydrates and lower intake of fat and animal protein than those in more affluent western countries."

"In 1924, the German Nobel laureate Otto Warburg first published his observations of a common feature he saw in fast-growing tumors: unlike healthy cells, which generate energy by metabolizing sugar in their mitochondria, cancer cells appeared to fuel themselves exclusively through glycolysis, a less-efficient means of creating energy through the fermentation of sugar in the cytoplasm. Warburg believed that this metabolic switch was the primary cause of cancer, a theory that he strove, unsuccessfully, to establish until his death in 1970.

To the two researchers in Wrzburg, the theoretical debate about what is now known as the Warburg effect whether it is the primary cause of cancer or a mere metabolic side effect is irrelevant. What they believe is that it can be therapeutically exploited. The theory is simple: If most aggressive cancers rely on the fermentation of sugar for growing and dividing, then take away the sugar and they should stop spreading. Meanwhile, normal body and brain cells should be able to handle the sugar starvation; they can switch to generating energy from fatty molecules called ketone bodies the body's main source of energy on a fat-rich diet an ability that some or most fast-growing and invasive cancers seem to lack."

There they go again, some dingbat allopathic person who knows nothing from a hill of beans making people afraid when they don't even know how to save their own hides....

What you ought to be afraid of is benzine, pollutants of all types, spending most of your life never taking the time to detox your body, eating trash, being deficient in iodine and other trace minerals, trash sugars and carbs, radiation, including mammograms, antibiotics and steroids, hormonal insufficiencies, trash in your water supply, deficient vitamin d levels, eating toxic levels of toxic fats including canola oil, and marjarine and other plastic type fats., and all plastics in general for their estrogenic toxins.

But they would like to put it on something like lavender. :barnie

Exactly Mackay.

Of all things to pin it on. Lavender? REALLY?

I strongly recommend people go out of their way to understand how the body works. It will help everyone not fall for goofy claims like "Lavender causes cancer" and "canola oil is good for you" and "carbs are harmless, you just need to cut calories and eat low fat".

That sure puts it in perspective!
I'm recommending this forum site to her so she can read these replies from informed minds.

Wivezilla- Thanks for mentioning canola oil. I've never bought it, but many processed foods are now made with it. I'm not alarmist, but it sounds to me like a cheap filler "food" that is being marketed brilliantly. No one even knows where it comes from! (I read a "Dr." that said it was made from canola plants. Um. No. Rapeseeds.) Anyway, information is never bad. :)

And Sylvie, it makes me sad that this person scared you with lies about lavender! Be afraid of fake sugar, not lavender!

henny....go in to the salad dressing isle and try to find something that doesn't contain SOY OIL.

That stuff is agricultural waste disguised as food. :sick
It is processed with hexane.
Soy is NOT a health food no matter what you hear.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of soy. I read somewhere that diets high in soy can increase the risk of breast cancer. But I also read that it can reduce the risk. Just give me food that hasn't been genetically modified and I'm cool.

Also, the Japanese dish Nato is made from soya, and is thus EVIL. (nato is moldy edamame)
