I have found a couple of burls and plan on air drying them. Is it better to let them dry as a whole piece, or slice them and let them dry?

My experience is that they will crack regardless. If you slice them, the drying time will be shorter. Only way I found to avoid cracking - or minimize it - is to treat them with PEG. This can also be a PITA but i needed it to make them good for turning. Someone else may have some more useful advice.
