What makes it European? Just the design? It appears similar - though better looking - to the electric yogurt maker I had a few years ago, before I gave up fiddling with all the little jars. The jars in mine were glass as well, though there was no automatic shutoff - which I wouldn't particularly want, as the timing isn't always the same for my yogurt batches.

I have been wanting to buy a yogurt maker for months... and could not find one in any of the stores... not even at the Whole Foods Market, which was recommended. I was planning to buy one online... but if they are being offered at places like Bed Bath... Target (I looked at 2 different ones... never had), I'll be really happy if they are now entering the retail store market.

I have Ulcerative Colitis... and the book I have virtually requires that I make my own special yogurt for all the recipes. It's vital to the SCD plan of living with the gluten-free diet. I've been "putting it off"... I'll check it out tomorrow!

For those of you with experience making your own yogurt... is it "really" that much better for you? I've only read a couple of articles, and they were both in relation to SCD. It also spoke of it being MUCH less expensive than buying store brands.

I also like the way this machine has individual containers. Most of the ones I've seen online a few months ago have been one large individual maker.

If anyone has one already, or gets one before me... please post about your results!

If you are making it with raw milk, then yes, its tons better for you.
Especially if you have UC.

I have had, over the last 30 years, 2 different yogurt makers; they both did the job, but I have since learned that, for me, it works better to use a different method. The little jars were very fiddly, for me; and the last maker I had had a hot spot, so instead of 8 little jars I only got 7 - one consistently failed to set up, because it got too hot. I find it more practical, for me, to make it by the quart jar. That said, I am the only member of my family who eats yogurt, so I don't need to cater to others whims. I can well imagine that if DH liked yogurt he would prefer the individual jars. Check the search function to find out the various ways that people here at SS make their yogurt.

I've found that homemade yogurt keeps amazingly well in the fridge....sometimes for weeks and weeks! So when I make it, I use quart jars in a large picnic cooler and make 8-9 quarts at a time. Price? Whatever your milk costs. I have goats. I have a friend who can get organic milk near the sell-by date for about a buck a gallon and makes yogurt with it.

My yogurt maker is the pot I boil the milk in.After I cool it I add some yogurt and then cover it with towels, blankets,or coats and place in a warm room for 24 hours. Works every time!

My kefir marker is a gallon pickle jar,lid covered with cloth, next to a heating vent.

When I make yogurt I make it mostly for my kids. I like having those little jars with caps. Most of the time I fill them a tad short so I have room for a bit of jam. Then my son stirs when he gets to school. I have actually bought an extra set of jars so I can make a couple batches and get the fridge loaded and be done with it.

I know it is very easy to make in larger batches and such but not convenient to serve.

I guess it depends on your needs.

This is the one I have.
