Yeah, but the difference is, if one of us wanted ruffles or beads or sequins, we'd run over to the nearest Goodwill store and look at the XXXL dresses for enough fabric and beads to make one our size..... :p

When I was making jewelry, I would look at the pics in mags like Vogue and In Style for ideas and made some pretty cool stuff! I did a little custom work for a few people and used the money to buy some verrrrrry nice pearls for....ME! :weee

So when I dress up, I wear very plain, simple clothes and very flashy jewelry.

Hey, abi, I made my first pair of panties two days ago, made a pattern from a favorite holey pair, and used a stained tshirt of dh's and tried 'em out today. I'll be making more...they are the best and most comfortable undies I own! 'Cept for the funky stain.... :p But he has a lot of colored tshirts made of the thicker cotton knit material and being a massage therapist, they always get oil stains long before they wear out.

NOT Southern, Ca. :)
So Abi let me ask you this..... I didn't watch the show. I gave up those things long ago. But it is interesting to see the clothes.

All things being relative. Did the state of our economy reflect in the fashion choices of today's A list. Did it look like the famous folks were decked out in "extras"? Or were they a bit on the conservative side?

If that's possible for those people?

Yup, and the other kind of status-flaunting waste is (and historically always has been, only now *everyone* thinks they ought to do it) buying a whole new wardrobe every season. Or half-season even.

Hence the extreme rapidity of fashion trends these days.

Genius.
I NEVER thought of making my own undies. I hate store undies. Seams drive me nuts, but a flatfold seam.......

How about the fashion of paying X amount every couple weeks to have a new manicure and fake, long nails? Complete with multiple colors and stick on decals?

I know so many women who still do this. I cannot even imagine how they get anything done with those thick nails on the ends of each finger. To me those nails are the height of waste.

I have always worn my nails plain or with clear polish or light pink only and never long. If they are clean and filed, I'm happy.

I watched the show with DH and didn't see a thing that even looked conservative. Actually it reminded me of a bunch of kids playing house,..and everyone had to put on their costumes. :p Plus I really thought many of them should go home and wash their hair and try combing it,...maybe even get out the scissors,....that is just my opinion though,...;)
