I am trying to get more kefir & yogurt into us. Can y'all share your favorite ways to use them?

My fave for yogurt has always been tziki. (yogurt with shredded cuke, garlic, parsley and sea salt) always ate it with pita, so I will need to find a healthier alternative.

Kefir I just add to my morning smoothie.

I have also been wondering will salt & the acid from lemon or lime juice kill off the good bugs?

Only yogurt so far, patiently waiting on my kefir grains :D

I've been replacing cream cheese & sour cream with yogurt, either drained or not, depending on the consistency I need.

A little sugarless (homemade) jelly swirled in, mashed banana or applesauce & sprinkled with some nuts or granola. Nuts are better. I'll make several of these without the nuts & stick them in the fridge until someone wants a snack, then pull it out & sprinkle on the nuts.

DH stirred some into the (pastaless, Yay!) Venison Stroganoff, in place of the sour cream & cream cheese he normally uses. That man makes a mean stroganoff, I don't know the recipe. Stir in at serving time so as to not cook the yogurt.

Mixed with a few herbs, depending on the flavor I want, for a dip for veggies or chicken tenders (broiled or pan fried, not breaded) Adjust yogurt or spices to taste.

These are better when left overnight in the fridge to meld.

Mexicali Dip
1 cup yogurt
1/4 teaspoon each cumin, chili powder, garlic & onion (powder or minced/crushed)
Salt to taste
1/4 cup smashed avocado
Start with the 1/4 tp & add more spices as needed

Chicken Jalapeno Dip
1/4 cup chicken, browned & diced small, keep the brownings from the pan & add them when you add the chicken, Yum!
1 cup yogurt
2 tablespoons diced jalapenos - fresh is okay, brined (or fermented!) is better)
Salt to taste
1/4 teaspoon garlic (powder or minced/crushed)
1/4 teaspoon onion (powder or minced/crushed)
Mix together all & adjust seasonings to taste

How about dipping veggies into your tzatziki for veggie dip?

I seriously doubt it.

I use yogurt for baking (it's free) cornbread, a cup in our morning smoothies, as a substitute for sourcream in some recipes and as part of my veggie dip recipes. Most of it gets sprinkled with homemade granola, drizzled with home-procured honey and eaten by me for breakfast with a big steaming cup of black tea :)

I had been making kefir and yogurt for many many years. When we moved here two years ago, I stopped with the kefir, and now I'm hoping to get some going again. My kids prefer kefir to yogurt. we eat both plain with jam or honey, in smoothies, make yogurt cheese and mix with seasonings to mimic creme cheese on bagels, etc. favourite ones are cinnamon and sugar mixed in with it , or a ranch spice. I bake with it alot. when recipes call for water or milk, you can substitute for kefir or yogurt most of the time.

When I add something to anything with good beasties in it that might kill or even suppress bacteria, I add it just when serving. For example, homemade ginger chai tea added to kombucha tea.....mixed right in the glass. The spice oils are very antibacterial, but my body tells me that I still get the benefits.

Salt slows putrifying bacteria but is ok with most ferments, salt is used in most veg ferments.

Lemon or lime? In kefir? Probably ok if not the zest. It is acidifying, which some stages of the fermenting bacteria like.
