I made a lacto fermented hummus the other day, I have made it beforewith no problems, but this time, the jars leaked, and so I removed the lid and it asploded. Not alot, but it oozed out of the jar . I haven't checked all the other jars, and it seemed only to be th jalapeno hummus, not the roasted red pepper.

Is this normal? And yes, I did leave one inch headspace.

Thanks

Read about the great bean escape in the fermenting thread. I think that is where someone here coined the word "expland."

I've re-read that thread 2-3 times and you can, too! It is full of great recipes, ideas, reminders, and inspiration. You can skim through the chit-chat, which is the bulk of most threads here on ss, we being a chatty bunch.
That is one long thread! Maybe we need a shorter step by step thread to walk us new fermenters through.

Well, I have tried fermenting beans with whey and another with lemon juice. I think they turned out ok. One problem I have is one of my dd cannot have dairy products. They make her extremely crabby! She is a young teen and she has been this way most of her life. I am not sure if whey would affect her. I guess I will have to test it sometime but I don't feel very enthusiastic about trying it with her.

I was thinking of vegetables. Like cabbage, carrots etc.
