Looking for more information on fireplace mantles--------maybe even luck across plans that show some dimensions. Not looking for heavily ornate designs, simple details that draw the eye to a focal point.

columns to support the lower shelf, mirror above that and a top shelf supported by shorter columns is the basic idea.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

Thanks for the reply John-----------I had found that same mantle during my search. The one I am looking for has turned posts supporting the shelf, a mirror just above that shelf and then another shelf supported by shorter posts.

I may have to wing it and design according to what I want to see and the space I have.

Our mantle is very close to the one in this picture. It's pretty simple and has a place for a mirror.

What do you think?

That example is a little closer but not quite there. I will have turned posts that will sit on a square base. I just put a granite surround and hearth in so the mantle will have to be built around the surround and rest on the hearth.

Thanks a bunch for the reply!! Jerry:)
