Okay, so my Mom has pretty much told me to tell her what food mill/gizmo I want, and it's mine for Christmas :celebrate (My sister is getting the Artisan Kitchen-Aid....)

BUT, I have to tell her which one I want! So, ummm, which one do I want, y'all? :hide

I KNOW I want hand-cranked (my TEOWAWKI plans involve having as much non-electric stuff as I can; thanks to the Tupperware party I hosted in September, I've got the hand-cranked food processor and mini-chopper!), but what brand/style do I need? (And when I mentioned this to her as something I want, she noted that she'd gotten rid of an ALL-METAL table-clamp one when she got out of canning :he )

So any and all ideas and links to pictures will be appreciated :)

What do you plan to do with it, mostly? That will determine recommendations, I think. Are you looking for a food mill or a food processor? The first separates pulp from seeds and skins and the second slices, chops, and shreds.

The victorio corn grinder from Lehmans is on my Christmas list. Its fairly cheap but it grinds coarsley and finely. I cant wait!!

Food MILL - want to separate pulp. I have a hand-cranked (all-plastic, but still) food processor that just chops, no slicing or shredding, but I CAN do those with a knife or cheese grater in the event of no electricity. Well, I could chop, too, but the food processor makes it faster, and I can do liquidy things in there too :)

This is what we have and I like it a lot. We have the motor base and the hand-crank base. I've never used the hand one, but we have it just in case there is no electricity. Then you can choose which attachments you want- grain mill, flaker, meat grinder, slicers, etc.
Does the vegetable extender set work to make tomato sauce or apple sauce? That's the biggest thing I want RIGHT NOW is to be able to process the tomatoes and apples without peeliing/coring. I know I eventually want more of those type attachments in my quest to be more self-sufficient.

thanks - think I'm gonna ask for this one, and it's accessories: okay, the link isn't wanting to copy/paste, but it's the Roma Food Mill from Lehman's. And since I know what she spent on my sister's gift, I'm gonna see if she'll throw in some reusable canning lids, too :D
