I am curious if anyone else here has or still uses a foodsaver to seal there seeds for long term storage???

What are the pros and cons you have found??

Is it really worth it???

How long will seeds last in this type of storage???

2 yrs ago I started our families seedbank and find myself amassing a lot of extra seeds. I don't want to waste them so I am curious if this will help them last yrs and yrs.

LMK Thank you Don

Um....I'm not a big stocker-upper like some folks.....buty why not just rotate them each year and you will never have old seeds? Just like with stored food?

I do rotate but I still have a ton of seeds. I do a lot of stocking and this is one additon plus my herbs that I have started working on this winter. Thanks Don

We started using our foodsaver for our seeds when we lived south of New Orleans. The humidity was so high that I worried about keeping them from getting moldy (it had never happened), but I just figured that it couldn't hurt. We kept the stored seeds in a shoebox, on the bottom shelf of the fridge.

We started saving seeds each year, and got to the point where we would use seeds the second year of storage. That way should one year fail, we still had enough for another planting. The longest we went before planting was three years with some okra. We had near 100% germination with them.

Did storing them in the foodsaver bags help? I honestly don't know. Probably any water resistant container would have been fine. We had rolls of extra bag material, so we used it. YMMV :)
