Can you freeze milk? One of my coworkers says you can, and I just thought I'd check before I'd waste precious milk! LOL. The other half says that he thinks it separates, to which I replied, well you have to shake the raw milk when you get it out of the fridge anyway!
Just wanted to find out more info before we tried it. If it is possible it would save us money!

Yep! I do it all the time. I am the only one to drimk milk but I buy a gallon and split it 6 ways, 5 smaller containers for the freezer and the original container until empty. Drawbacks it is better to remix it when thawed and ypu have to remember to move the container to the refrig to Thaw. I like milk before I go to bed and I just check that I have enough for Breakfast when I get my nite time drink.

I hate shopping, so I shop big when I do it including milk. All I have to do is take an empty jug and put a cup of milk from each gallon and then I can freeze each gallon....to allow the ice to expand.
I live in a place prone to very strong storms/hurricanes, so its nice for me to enter hurricane season with about 7 gallons of milk in the freezer, because following a storm, I might not be able to find a store with power or even an open store....plus I might be here illegally, hidding in my house and the roads might not be open. Milk would be missed big time in my house. The fat does come to the top, but I just defrost it all the way and shake it around and its fine.
Also, the more stuff you have in your freezer, the less energy it takes to keep it frozen. Just do it.

wahoooo! Thanks guys!!!
gd, that is probably what we'll do. Now we can go back to buying the gallon of milk instead of two half gallons!
Gah, wish I had found this out sooner!

Ditto all of this, except for the hurricane bit--not a threat where I live.

Do you know anyone that buys milk from the store in smaller containers? I can't get raw milk here, so have to have the store bought stuff. So, I bought 6 quart containers. When I buy a gallon of milk, I split it 5 ways. I keep one out, put the rest in the freezer. When I get about half way done the last one, I buy another gallon, and split it 5 ways. Then, I either freeze all 5, or leave whichever one has the least amount of milk in it out. (You don't want to fill them all the way up, but allow room for expansion. I try to have them filled equally.)

I just use the container it came in. Just put the whole thing in the freezer straight from the store.

Terri, that only works if I want to thaw the entire amount at once :)
I need to split a gallon up because we can't drink the entire gallon before it goes bad. So I need smaller containers.

I bought some plastic containers at the supermarket of the appropriate size. You could also buy smaller quantities of milk as a one time thing (4 quarts instead of 1 gallon, for example), and use those containers.
