Good Antivirus Software for Windows XP

I currently have Norton as my antivirus software. It makes the PC so slow. Is there another really good antivirus software that won't slow down the PC so much?

My PC is 7 years old and is already slow enough on its own, I don't need the antivirus software to slow it down further!

I use Avast! and it did more for me than Norton OR McAfee. And it is free.

We have AVG which was recommended by the place that cleaned up our PC when it had a virus.
