I just got 9 2'x4' flourescent 4-tube light fixtures (designed for drop ceilings) from CL for $90, bulbs included!!

I just need to connect a cord to each one and build a fixture out of scrap wood to hang them on.

Quick question - each one of these has a diffuser panel to soften the light. Should I leave them in or take them out?

Oh, and take the panels out. No light diffusion!

One of the guys here at work tells me that you can get a complete spectrum with a cool bulb and a warm bulb. Put one of each in your fixture and you've saved money. I recently learned that you must hang it within a few inches of the plants for it to work well.

That is exactly what I am planning to do when these bulbs croak. I was goofy and bought the big grow lights. but I only have two bulbs in my set up..
Great buy on the 4 bulb fixtures!
and I too have hooks and chains to move the lights up and down over the plants.

Great score!!! I have the same thing that I took out of an old display and found a metal firewood storage rack for $10 I used some scrap wood to make 2 shelves attached my new up-cycled lights with chains and hooks so they can be adjusted as the plants grow, added a surge protector that I got at a yard sale for free and plugged everything in. It fits 4 flats plus some small pots and the savings are big. :thumbsup
