I'm working a wooden picture frame project. Not sure which type of hammer is needed? I was told that I shouldn't use a standard hammer. I should get a special picture framing hammer. Does it matter which type? Any recommendations.

I have just used a 10 oz hammer rather than the 16 or 20 oz ones normally used in construction. Maybe the people who do it for a living have something more tailored for the job but my 10 oz claw hammer does me just fine. The lighter weight makes careful work easier.

Did someone refer you to a Warrington Hammer? Mine is a ten ounce model and is handy for working in tight places. I googled a link for you here: http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/indextool.mvc?prodid=EE-615-WH1.XX
I have never purchased from the firm but at least this will give you an idea. A light finish claw hammer is great to have and is probably easier to find.
