I'm looking at buying one for $35. It's a hand crank one and from pictures it looks to be fairly decent, but don't know much about them. Is it worth it to snatch it up?

I would if I had the $35. That's not a bad price from what I've seen, and I have shopped for one, just haven't gotten one yet.

I just don't know how well it would work, ya know? It's more than I want to pay for something that is too difficult for me to use, lol. I also don't know if it's adjustable or not... I want to be able to slice up meats for lunchmeats (thin), bread and hopefully boneless steaks from a deer.

Oh I'd definately find out if it's adjustable first and foremost. Believe me i understand about the money. $35 isn't much to some folks but...I know how tight things can get. I try to hang onto as much as possible until I know exactly what I want/need. Can you try it out maybe? Before purchase? Or is this something online that you can't? If you can, ask for a demonstration and see how easy it is for you to use. Otherwise, I think I'd pass.
