Has anyone seen the Yahoo news headlines about the swine flu?

Talk about scaring people. They're doing it. The first headline said 90,000 americans expected to die from swine flue this year. The next one said half of US residents could get swine flu. Okay half of us could win the lottery, too, but it's not likely. I wonder what is behind the scare tactics. Is it really going to be that bad, or are they overreacting? I work as a CNA and I will have to have the vaccine to keep my job. However, I do not trust having the vaccine and I am wondering if the dangers are worth it. What about my 2 year-old? I am not a paranoid and fearful person, however I am not an idiot either. I had double pneumonia last year and got so weak that I was nearly hospitalized. I literally had to talk them out of it. I don't want to go through anything like that again and I definately don't want to risk my kids either way. Any suggestions.

They made you look, didn't they? That's all they want. Eyes on them. Of course they're overreacting and inflaming the situation. Idiots. Let's panic people so we'll have even more to report

Rick and Bubba a local radio show had a MD on this morning that said he has tested 11 people, if i remember correctly, for flu and 9 were H1N1 flu. he said he has seen it to be very mild with some of the people going about their day not feeling bad at all, common cold like symptoms. He agrees that there will be a dramatic increase in the coming months but unless the virus mutates it will be a milder flu than the seasonal strains. He thinks people are going to panic and cause a problem with emergency rooms. We have to remember that common sense is the best medicine, fevers kill viruses, so just use common sense. In my home if there is a fever we normally let it run its course but if it gets 101-102 for a day (very closely monitored mind you) then we seek medical attention. its just my opinion but i think the gov is full of crap and are preparing people for the WORSE CASE scenario.

Well I am one who believes in worst case scenarios and I think we should all be as prepared as is reasonable. The following seems like common sense...aside from the masks

FLU EMERGENCY KIT
Prepare a flu emergency kit in case the virus is serious enough to keep you and your family at home. According to Consumer Reports magazine and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, your kit should include:

-A two-week supply of food and water

- Fever reducers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen or naproxen.

- Cough and cold medications containing chlorpheniramine,
diphenhydramine, pseudoephedrine and lozenges with dyclonine, glycerin or honey can help ease symptoms.

- Electrolyte drinks, such as Gatorade or Powerade, to keep you hydrated.

- Hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol, such as Purell, to kill viruses when soap and water aren't available.

- Surgical masks with a rating from the FDA of at least N95 to help prevent spreading the flu. Masks need to be replaced often and disposed after use.

Here is the whole article:

All that said, I will not be taking the vaccine nor will my children. I think part of this push is financial gain for vaccine producers and I do not feel that the vaccine will have truly been tested and proven safe.

That's what I'm thinking about the vaccine. They don't know the effects yet and i am not willing for my kids or myself to be guinea pigs! My job is part-time and I can actually see possibly changing jobs if they force it. But I can't help but be worried. I believe it is a scare tactic, but I don't want to be caught off guard either. So I think I will prepare....but the vaccine is still not on my to-do list. We will definately be hopped up on vitamins before then.

Go to youtube and type in "Bunker Report Red Alert" and watch a few of this guys videos. Specially 3/20/09.
He seems to be very well connected and is reporting stuff that I am also getting from other sources...........

I will warn you that the opening part is rather annoying. :barnie

I try to stay out of public areas in the winter time anyway. I'll just have stock up on more stuff before, so I don't have to go to the grocery store any more than I have to.
I have been so much healthier, since I haven't been working in an office. Broke, but heallthy
