My Foodsaver is not holding its vacuum. I raced half an hour to another town when I found that TSC had them on clearance, only to find that the three they had when I called were now gone.

SO, I started checking into buying a new one, and it's ridiculous how expensive they have become. Of course, I did get mine as a gift, but still.

I ran across the Pump 'n Seal, essentially a reverse bicycle pump. It seems to be able to seal all manner of jars, including Ball jars and any commercial jar such as mayo or jam. And it is priced between $15 and $30, depending upon the vendor.

So, has anyone tried this product before? No one has mentioned it, so maybe not, or maybe the therapist has warned against talking about it until the voices stop.

Anyone? Anyone?

I've never heard of it, sorry.

What I have heard of and currently use almost exclusively are the Ziploc and Handi Vac bags and their hand-held vaccuum pumps. I think the reason Foodsavers, etc, have been on clearance lately is because, even Foodsaver has their own brand of hand held now.
They're quick, easy, just like using a regular Ziploc bag, except you close up the bag and use the little vaccuum or pump and suck the air out of a little port. SO much nicer than digging out the big sealer, finding bags or cutting to make bags. PLUS.. I've never had to toss a bag because it didn't vac. right, or the seal got lost!

I have not had good luck with the zip lock or handi pump bags. I like my seal a meal a lot better. I got it at a garage sale for $4.

I have seen the hand pumps, but haven't heard good reviews. Looks like we have a 50/50 here. I got a new FoodSaver. I had given my mom one some time ago, she hated it and gave it to my niece, who never tried it, and so she heard mine was on the fritz and gave it to me. None of the bags had ever been used. It has the hole for the jar adapter, but no adapter, so I ordered the tubing and both the standard and wide mouth sealers. I have had so much trouble with bags losing their vacuum (three of four lost it with the new machine, so it's cheap bags) and I have dehydrated foods I want to vacuum seal, hence the jars.

I bought one of those little hand held ones for using on the zip locks. It never worked. Very disappointing.
