Hi all! I've been lurking around the forum for a couple of days, reading posts, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself. You all sound like a nice bunch of people so here I am. I found you through a Google search for info on using a water bath canner for low-acid vegetables. Yes, I'm a bit of a rebel LOL.

I had my first vegetable garden this summer - a bit of a challenge in the heat and with poor soil conditions, but I'm learning and enjoying myself. I've always been "plant challenged" and am so envious of gardeners who come by the skill naturally. I love to cook and have been on the "cook from scratch" band wagon for many years. My friends think I'm weird and a cheapskate with my self-sufficient attitude. I have a feeling the joke's going to be on them.

I'm sure I'll be pestering you with many questions! And yes, I absolutely love Jack Russell terriers!

:frow Welcome !
I used to live and garden in Orlando. It's an adventure. Look up Tom MacGubbin. He works for the Extension service there and writes a garden column for the Orlando Sentinel. He also wrote a bunch of books on gardening in Fla. I loved his book "Edible Landscaping". The library will probably have a few of his books. Then I bought my favorite one used to save $.

Thank you for the info!!! It was a struggle this summer, but I am determined to conquer my poor soil! LOL I have been watching my neighbor down the way who has a beautiful garden year-round and noticed he rakes the "gunky green stuff" out from lake bank and uses it. I'm going to give that a shot.
