My eyes have been bad since I was little but they have always been able to be corrected with the help of either contacts or glasses. On my last trip to the eye doctor, I was told that this is no longer the case. My eyes are getting older and my vision is just no longer going to be as crisp as I would like.

Well, I call bullsh*^t on that. I honestly can't believe that there's nothing to be done so that I can see again. I have two eyeballs in reasonably good condition, no neurological disturbances that would create visual impairment, and I eat a healthy diet.

I've used up my allowable insurance budget for vision care for the year with that clown unfortunately, but I'm wondering if there's anyone out there in the self-sufficient community who knows of a way to improve sight without surgery. I'd love your input!

As far as diet goes, you can squeeze fresh carrot juice each day and consume for good vision and eat plenty of green, leafy veggies.

My mother did the carrot juice for over 15 years and only just got away from it recently....guess what? Now she has to have cataract surgery, after having the same prescription for all these years her prescription and her existing cataracts worsened after stopping the carrot juice for a year.

If you cannot tolerate the juice, they make carrot pills but not sure who distributes those now. I used to take them and found an interesting side effect. If you take them on an empty stomach in the morning, they seem to have a diuretic affect all morning....which I loved! :)

Fermented cod liver oil with high vitamin butter oil has been proven (anecdotal of course) to greatly improve eyesight.
Its the combo that is ideal, but I believe the butter oil is the essential part. It contains high levels of K2, whereas the carrots contain teh precursors.

Has anybody tried lutein? The pills are made from marigolds, but I'm not sure if I want to eat marigolds. I don't like that smell at all.

Leutin is very powerful for some eye problems. Taking a dose under 20 mg a day is worthless for most.. making it kinda spendy.

Bilberry extract of at least 350 mg a day helps some

All the diet stuff already mentioned.. Vitamin K2 is excellent and will benefit the body in a multitude ways, primarily in the cardio vascular department. 90 mcg is necessary a day. If the condition is severe double it for 6 months. NOW brand vitamins makes a good one as does L.E.F.

Ultimately the above combined with the Bates Method of eye exercises can restore a lot of vision for most people. Get a book on Amazon. I have seen people throw away coke bottle glasses after doing Bates... but it does take some determination.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Miss-the-north, I don't have anything but a very mild astigmatism in one eye, nothing else weird going on.

I have a friend who swore by eyebright. I had never heard of it. It's in the vitamins section of your local drugstore, pretty cheap if I recall correctly. I don't even know what it is, some sort of herb. You can google it. It's supposed to help with vision.

Old thread, but its slowly being documented that fermented cod liver oil is improving eyesight drastically when taken in the higher dosage.
