Hi everyone! I guess I'm supposed to introduce myself? I found my way here from backyardchickens.com
My husband and I have 7 children between us, but none together. All are younger than 17, and all except my oldest son lives with us. We also have a teenage boy that we took in last spring. So we still have 7 kids living in the house. :).

I homeschool two of the children, my 17 and 8 year old daughters. I would the rest of the kids, but we are afraid it would cause custody issues for my husband.

We live in a rural housing addition, outside of city limits in a county that has absolutely no zoning or restrictions. We have a half acre. My neighbors hate me ☺.

My husband is a mechanic and a wrecker driver. He's not home a lot so most of what goes on here is up to me. I currently have around 30 chickens of various ages in two different coops and the brooder, 18 eggs in an incubator that I built myself, 6 adult rabbits and 7 baby bunnies, and 2 young pigs. Oh and my husbands cat that hates me lol. Over the summer I also raised 3 sets of cornish cross.

I also have a good-sized garden but it is done for the year. In the spring we are planning on putting up privacy fence across the front and both sides of our property (thick woods borders us in the back so woven wire will go there) and I plan to plant fruit trees and bushes all along the fences. My goal is to grow or raise 90% of our food on this little plot. My 8 year old daughter tells me when we are feeding in the mornings "mommy i love living on q farm!" Lol. Again. Its a half acre. Lol.

Anyway, I can everything I can. I bake a lot, most of our meals are made from scratch. We don't have a lot of money, we struggle every month to pay the bills. But we aren't on any government programs (not putting down those that are!) And we do ok. We eat better than most people around here anyway lol.

I'm also going to start seedsaving next year. I want to add dairy goats and a few turkeys as well. My teenagers laugh and call me a prepper. I'm not preparing for anything exactly, I just don't see the point in buying things I can do for myself. Its a waste.

So that's me ☺. I hope to get to know you all and gain and maybe even share some knowledge on here. You all have a great Sunday!

Welcome to SS :frow It sounds like you will fit in here! It's amazing how much you can achieve on a small space when you put your mind to it… It sounds like you are doing great so far!

Welcome - we're glad you're here and we can all learn from one another. I totally agree with Sumi - you can do a lot with even a small plot of land.

Hey, welcome to our crazyness! I have a half acre also- we don't have room to do as much as you-- the underpinnings (the well, septic, etc) are laid out in a very inefficient manner.
I'm looking forward to hearing your adventures!

Welcome from VA. There are days when "only 1/2 acre" sounds just right! You can do a lot with the planning you display.

Welcome from northeast Texas. We just moved from a tiny city lot where I raised chickens and a garden to 8 acres. I raised a LOT of food in my small garden, so I know it can be done. Good for you for raising good food for your family!
