As a big fan of C#%^&* Morgan , I was hoping to find a more reasonable priced alternative. None tasted right. An exhausting online search found a recipe. 4 cups cheap dark rum, 4 tbsp. vanilla-imitation is ok, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup water, whatever spices you like. I like nutmeg and am finally using that jar that I use for Christmas cookies. I think it tastes better than the original. Reading the soap grating post inspired me to post this for the pirates out there. You have to heat the water and dissolve the sugar in it, let cool and mix. I add my nutmeg to the hot water. You can strain it if you like but I don't mind the little bits of nutmeg.

Yummy!!! My family pours it into our fresh fruit salads during get togethers! Tastes so good! (Kids got the virgin fruit salads.)

At home, I had rum and Dr Pepper, and when I moved out, I discovered that the only kind I like is about $30 here. :he Maybe I'll try it closer to winter, when I really feel like that kind of a drink.

***Yes, it was my parent's rum, and yes they knew I had it. I think they were laughing on the inside, as they knew I could never afford to buy any for myself!

I never measured, just sprinkled it over the hot water. Probably was 1/2 tsp. My husband also thought the taste was great. Thanks for the welcome.

As a newbie to the board, I am glad to find a recipe I can make and put to good use.
