I am trying to cut back on my carb-heavy smoothie that I have been drinking daily. I love the fact that it is my vehicle to get the goodness of kefir into me, but I am thinking of cutting back to 3- 4 times per week. (8 oz in the smoothie)

Is that enough to reap the benefits of kefir? I tried drinking it straight up and nearly gagged....I can't shoot tequilla either though.

If I need to find another way to get it in me more often I will.

do you make kefir cheese? My kids will drink the kefir straight up with flavour or in a smoothie, or I will make kefir cheese, and sweeten it with a bit of stevia and vanilla. I usually have a coupla tbsp's full about every other day. and alternate with kombucha.

I don't know hos much is enough.

Mine tastes a little like mild yogurt, but I can't eat it plain either.
No clue on the amounts, I just try to eat a little every day.
How about...
Creamy salad dressing
Topped with sunflower seeds & raisins
Drained & mixed with herbs for a veggie dip
Replace sour cream
I use it the same way I do yogurt, basically.

I am planning to use as much as I can in cheese and sour cream form. My dh would never drink it. But I will find a way!!!

Dace why is your smoothie carb heavy? Is it the fruit?

Yeah, banana and blueberries! Good nutrition, just a little carb heavy at once!

Are you opposed to stevia? You could add a few drops in lieu of your bananas. I just bought two stevia plants, so I have stevia on the brain right now. If you have it fresh, (like I now do :p, ) I would try adding a few leaves in the smoothie itself. I must practice patience though, as I ned to wait for the plants to grow a bit first.

Drained kefir makes a great salad dressing and dip...basic French onion dip is wonderful, and my Parmesan Peppercorn recipe can use strained kefir instead of the sour cream. Yum!
