OK......so far I am doing pretty well making the plain yogurt.
The Wife absolutely loves it and is sure to let me know when our supply is getting low. Her idea of "low" is when we are down to 3 jars
ANYWAY.........can I make flavored yogurt? Like say add a little vanilla into the culture before I set it out? How about other fruits? Can they be added at the beginning, or should I just keep on making it plain and adding our fruit afterwords????

What say the experts?

Not an expert, but I know you should keep on with just what you are doing. You don't want to contaminate your starter (existing yogurt) with anything.

Just add your fruit, honey, granola, nuts, vanilla or whatever, when you go to eat it.

I only add flavoring before serving. Like Noobie said, there is a chance you can screw up the culture. Why risk it?

Why mess around with perfect tasting plain yogurt? :ep
JK- I love pineapple yogurt and lightly brown pineapple in butter and brown sugar and a dash of salt before adding them to already cultured yogurt.

I'll be different and tell you that I always add some honey and a splash of vanilla to my milk when I am heating it up. Never had any problems.

I have a different yogurt question:

If I use greek yogurt as a starter, will I get all those extra good beasties in my yogurt? Will it turn out ok if I use lowfat milk?

Ditto, but usually I forget and is just plain :)
