Over the last week we have been hit with 2 large snow storms up here in Maine. Each storm dropped over a foot of snow. With cold weather right after they have caused a lot of ice damns on roofs In the high 20's and low 30's for the last three days. These ice damns had to go. Good time because tonight it is raining a bit. Kind of a mix at times. This will not be good for many who did not take advantage of the warm weather to get there roofs cleaned off. I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of inside repairs for people soon. Maybe a light at the end of my vacation.

The good news is the Finches are hitting the bird feeders hard. :) Lot's of new tracks in the yard too. So we are putting out extra food for our wooded friends. Keep'em happy because someday I may have to call that favor in. :)

I thought this was going to be a post about how to insulate and ensure proper attic ventilation in order to prevent ice dams. How did you remove them? Are they pretty common where you are? We have a crazy freeze/thaw cycle here in southern Alberta but I think most people have good attic insulation.

:) gotta to read my post didn't I HAHAHHA!! Nah just kidding!! I thought about the topic of how to but I was in the mood to share what my mind was thinking about at the time.

The number one way to prevent is to clean your roofs off. Bottom line. Keep the snow off the roofs. Take all your gutters off in the fall too. They are brutal on roofs with ice building up. As I clean roofs off for some friends due to not cleaning the leaves out of there gutters the ice from melting early in the season helped the ice damns BIG TIME!! ( like my run on sentence??? ) :)

I've seen pics of places where the gutters have pulled off the houses. That can do quite a bit of damage.
